Grief before loss is as real as after loss. I was not aware until after my twenty-four year old daughter died from a lifetime battle with the genetic disease cystic fibrosis. She was diagnosed at five weeks old. There are other circumstances, such life transitions, divorce, and aging. The most familiar is the diagnosis of a life-shortening or life-altering illness. The grief has an official name, anticipatory grief. Each person’s journey is unique, normal, and significant. The path is universal. Art for Grief Care is founded on thirty-three years of caregiving with three family members. The first was our daughter, Hannah, who died twenty-four years after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis.
